KATERINA MUNIS is a film writer, director, and XR (immersive) specialist based in Los Angeles. She earned an MFA in Film & TV Production from the U.S.C. School of Cinematic Arts and received her bachelor's in Classics and the Ancient Near East. Prior to film, Katerina worked in emergency medical aid in global conflict regions. Katerina was the Director of Productions at XR Stage, leading immersive, extended-reality worlds on LED volumes for studio film and television. Katerina lectures on XR and AI, propelling the next film frontier while prioritizing humanity in the arts.

Katerina's directorial debut Daedalus was awarded grants from FOX Productions, XR, and USC, and was partially captured in an immersive 3D world. Katerina received myriad Best Director, Best Film, and department awards for Daedalus during its international festival circuit, including the 2024 TELLY for Best Immersive Director. Daedalus was showcased in the AMPAV Emerging Filmmaker program at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

 

Katerina is the 2024 ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellow. Her debut feature script BEASTS is a 2023 Academy Awards Nicholls finalist, Sundance Labs finalist, Stowe Story Labs selection, and ranks in the top 1% of all projects on Coverfly, featuring on the REDLIST. Katerina's sci-fi script A Singular Girl is currently a 2025 Sundance Labs finalist.

 

Katerina innovates at the nexus of art and technology and is driven by creative enterprises that ignite the mind & enthrall the imagination. Her stories blend genres with a love for drama and magical realism, creating worlds that are provocative, enchanting, and propelled by flawed underdog characters who brave extraordinary circumstances.
